Mount Lykaion

Also known as Mount Lycaeus

Mount Lykaion is a mountain in south-western Arcadia in the Peloponnese, rising to about 1,400 metres. Its summit held an ash altar of Zeus Lykaios, the site of ancient sacrifices and athletic games, and local legend made it the birthplace of Zeus. In 227 BCE Cleomenes III of Sparta defeated the Achaean League army near the mountain.
