Mount Tambora
Mount Tambora is a volcano on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. Its eruption in April 1815, the largest in recorded history, destroyed the kingdoms of Tambora and Pekat and killed tens of thousands of people on Sumbawa and nearby islands. The ash it threw into the atmosphere caused the 'year without a summer' of 1816 in Europe and North America.
