Muhammad ibn Ziyad
Muhammad ibn Ziyad was the founder of the Ziyadid dynasty of Yemen. A descendant of the Umayyad governor Ziyad ibn Abihi, he was sent by the caliph al-Ma'mun in 818 or 819 to subdue the rebellious tribes of the Tihama. He founded Zabid as his base and established a hereditary dynasty that ruled the coastal plain for two centuries, nominally under the Abbasids.
