Muhanga
Muhanga, formerly Gitarama, is a town in the Southern Province of Rwanda, west of Kigali. It was the home base of Grégoire Kayibanda and the Hutu party Parmehutu. On 28 January 1961 Hutu leaders meeting there proclaimed the abolition of the monarchy and a republic, the so-called Gitarama coup, which a referendum confirmed later that year.
