Mujir al-Din Abaq

r. 1140–1154 · 12th century

Mujir al-Din Abaq was the last Burid ruler of Damascus, reigning from 1140 to 1154, largely under the control of powerful ministers. Damascus kept a cautious alliance with the crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem against the Zengids, yet was besieged by the Second Crusade in 1148. Losing the support of the townspeople, he surrendered the city to Nur al-Din in 1154, uniting Muslim Syria.
