Murshidabad
Murshidabad is a city on the Bhagirathi river in West Bengal, India. Named after Murshid Quli Khan, who moved the provincial revenue office there in the early 18th century, it was the capital of the Nawabs of Bengal for most of that century. After the Battle of Plassey in 1757 power passed to the East India Company, and Calcutta replaced it as capital; the Hazarduari Palace and the Katra Masjid survive.
