Mursili I
Mursili I was an early king of the Hittites, remembered for his long-distance raid down the Euphrates around 1595 BCE. The campaign sacked Babylon, carried off the statues of Marduk and his consort, and ended the First Babylonian Dynasty. For the Hittite Empire it demonstrated remarkable operational reach, though it produced no lasting territorial gain, while for the Babylonian Empire it marked the final blow to the Old Babylonian state.
