Muscat
Muscat is a port city on the coast of Oman, commanding sea routes between the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. Nader Shah of the Afsharid Empire conquered it in about 1743, extending Iranian commercial and naval reach. The conquest reflected Afsharid maritime ambitions that later Iranian dynasties proved unable to sustain.
