Muzo
Muzo is a town in the department of Boyacá, Colombia, in the western foothills of the Eastern Cordillera. The mines around it, worked before the Spanish conquest by the Muzo people, have long produced some of the world's finest emeralds. Under Spanish rule from the 16th century they were a valuable source of revenue, and Colombian emeralds reached markets in Europe, the Ottoman Empire and Mughal India.
