Nanbu Nobunao

1546–1599 · 16th century

Nanbu Nobunao was head of the Nanbu warrior family of northern Mutsu in Japan. In 1590 Toyotomi Hideyoshi confirmed him in his lands, though he lost the Tsugaru region to his breakaway retainer Tsugaru Tamenobu. He moved his seat to Morioka, where his successors ruled the Morioka domain, known for its horses, under the Tokugawa shogunate until 1871.
