Narshakhi

899–959 · 10th century · Also known as Abu Bakr Narshakhi

Narshakhi (Abu Bakr Muhammad Narshakhi) was a historian from the Bukhara oasis who in 943 or 944 wrote a History of Bukhara in Arabic for the Samanid ruler Nuh I. The work survives only in a shortened Persian translation of 1128 with later additions. It is the main source for the pre-Islamic and early Islamic history of Bukhara, including its local rulers, the Bukhar Khudahs.
