Nectanebo II

r. 360–342 BCE · 4th century BCE

Nectanebo II was the last native king of ancient Egypt, of the Thirtieth Dynasty. He took the throne around 360 BCE, repelled a Persian invasion in 351 BCE and built many temples. In 343 BCE Artaxerxes III defeated him at Pelusium and took Memphis, and he fled south to Upper Egypt or Nubia, leaving Egypt again a Persian satrapy.
