Netherlands New Guinea
Netherlands New Guinea was the western half of New Guinea, which the Netherlands kept when it transferred sovereignty over the rest of the East Indies to Indonesia in 1949. The Dutch prepared it for separate self-government, but Indonesian military pressure and American mediation led to the New York Agreement of 1962. The territory passed to United Nations administration that year and to Indonesia in 1963.
