Ngāruawāhia
Ngāruawāhia is a town in the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island, at the meeting of the Waikato and Waipā rivers. In 1858 Pōtatau Te Wherowhero was installed there as the first Māori King, and it became the centre of the King movement. British troops occupied it during the invasion of the Waikato in 1863, and since the 1920s Tūrangawaewae marae in the town has again been the seat of the Māori monarch.
