b. 1975 · 21st century

Nikol Pashinyan is an Armenian journalist and politician who led the peaceful protests of 2018, the Velvet Revolution, which brought him to power as prime minister. His government faced defeat in the 2020 war with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh and the loss of the region in 2023, which drove out over 100,000 Armenians and cooled Armenia's relations with Russia.
