Nonantola Abbey is a Benedictine monastery near Modena in northern Italy, founded in 752 by Anselm, a former Duke of Friuli and brother-in-law of the Lombard king Aistulf. Favoured by Lombard and Carolingian rulers, it grew into one of the richest abbeys of Italy, with a renowned scriptorium. Its Romanesque church dates from the 12th century.
