1922–1961 · 20th century

The Northern Cameroons was the northern part of the British Cameroons, a League of Nations mandate and later United Nations trust territory carved from German Kamerun. It bordered Bornu and Adamawa and was administered as part of Northern Nigeria. In a plebiscite in 1961 it voted to join Nigeria, while the Southern Cameroons joined Cameroon.
