Offa's Dyke

8th century · 8th century

Offa's Dyke is a linear earthwork running roughly along the border between England and Wales, generally attributed to Offa, king of Mercia from 757 to 796. Built as a bank with a ditch on its western side, it survives over about 130 kilometres and faced Welsh kingdoms such as Powys. A long-distance footpath now follows its course.
