Oral, Kazakhstan
Oral, known in Russian as Uralsk, is a city in north-western Kazakhstan on the Ural River. Founded in the early 17th century as Yaitsky Gorodok, the chief settlement of the Yaik Cossacks, it was a centre of Yemelyan Pugachev's rebellion in 1773–1774, after which Catherine the Great renamed the river and the town after the Urals. It is now the capital of West Kazakhstan Region.
