Opole
Opole is a city in south-western Poland on the Oder, the capital of the Opole Voivodeship and a historical centre of Upper Silesia. From the 12th century it was a seat of Piast dukes, whose Opole line ruled until 1532. It later passed to the Habsburgs and to Prussia, returned to Poland in 1945, and remains a centre of Poland's German minority.
