John of Bohemia

1296–1346 · 14th century · Also known as John the Blind, John of Luxembourg

John of Luxembourg, known as John the Blind, was King of Bohemia from 1310 to 1346. Son of Emperor Henry VII, he gained Bohemia by marriage to Elisabeth of the Přemyslid line and spent much of his reign campaigning abroad. Between 1327 and 1336 most of the Silesian dukes did homage to him, bringing Silesia under the Bohemian crown. Blind by then, he was killed fighting for France at Crécy in 1346.
