Upper Silesia
Upper Silesia is the south-eastern part of Silesia, on the upper Oder, today mostly in Poland with a part in the Czech Republic. In the Middle Ages it was divided among Piast duchies such as Opole, Racibórz, Bytom and Cieszyn, which came under the Bohemian crown. Later it passed to Prussia and became a major coal and industrial region.
