Bytom

Bytom is a city in the Silesian Voivodeship of southern Poland and one of the oldest towns in Upper Silesia. It grew around an early medieval stronghold, received town rights in 1254 and from 1281 was the seat of the Piast Duchy of Bytom. Rich in silver, lead and later coal, it became a major mining and industrial city.
