Byrsa
Byrsa is the hill at the centre of ancient Carthage, in present-day Tunisia, on which the city's citadel stood. According to legend, Queen Dido was granted as much land as an ox-hide could cover and cut the hide into thin strips to encircle the hill, the name being linked to the Greek word for hide. Byrsa was the heart of the Punic Empire's capital and the last stronghold to fall to Rome in 146 BCE.
