Oleśnica

Also known as Oels

Oleśnica is a town in Lower Silesia, Poland, east of Wrocław. From around 1320 it was the capital of the Piast Duchy of Oleśnica, which later passed to the Poděbrady family and then to branches of the houses of Württemberg and Brunswick; its Renaissance castle was their residence. Known in German as Oels, it became part of Poland in 1945.
