Byzantine commonwealth
The Byzantine commonwealth is a term used by historians for the community of Orthodox Christian peoples and states culturally shaped by Byzantium, including Russia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania and Georgia. These societies adopted Byzantine religion, liturgy, law and artistic forms. The concept describes how the cultural reach of the Byzantine Empire extended far beyond its political borders and outlasted it.
