Don (river)
The Don is a river of south-western Russia, about 1,870 kilometres long, flowing from south of Moscow to the Sea of Azov. Known to the Greeks as the Tanais, it was regarded in antiquity as the boundary between Europe and Asia and between the Scythians and the Sarmatians. Later it was the heartland of the Don Cossacks, and the Volga–Don Canal now links it to the Volga.
