Oregon Territory

1848–1859 · 19th century

Oregon Territory was an organised territory of the United States from 1848 to 1859, covering the present states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho and parts of Montana and Wyoming. Created by Congress after the Oregon Treaty and the Whitman massacre, it replaced the settlers' provisional government. Washington Territory was split off in 1853, and the western part became the state of Oregon in 1859.
