Oregon Treaty
The Oregon Treaty was signed by the United States and Britain on 15 June 1846, ending their dispute over the Oregon Country in the Pacific Northwest. It extended the border along the 49th parallel from the Rocky Mountains to the coast, leaving all of Vancouver Island to Britain. The treaty settled a crisis that had raised fears of war, though the boundary through the San Juan Islands was not settled until 1872.
