Ottoman–Venetian War (1570–1573)
The Ottoman–Venetian War of 1570–1573 was fought between the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Venice, allied with Spain and the papacy in the Holy League. The Ottomans conquered Cyprus, taking Nicosia in 1570 and Famagusta in 1571; the Holy League destroyed the Ottoman fleet at Lepanto in October 1571, but Venice made a separate peace in 1573 that ceded Cyprus.
