Pact of Biak-na-Bato

1897 · 19th century · Part of the Philippine Revolution

The Pact of Biak-na-Bato was a truce agreed in December 1897 between the Spanish governor-general Fernando Primo de Rivera and Emilio Aguinaldo's revolutionaries, mediated by Pedro Paterno. Aguinaldo and other leaders accepted exile in Hong Kong in return for payments and promised reforms. Neither side fully honoured it, and the revolution resumed in 1898 during the Spanish-American War.
