Pact of Brunnen

1315 · 14th century

The Pact of Brunnen was an alliance concluded on 9 December 1315 at Brunnen, on Lake Lucerne, by Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden, weeks after their victory over the Habsburgs at Morgarten. Written in German, it renewed and extended their earlier league, forbidding any member to accept a new lord or make agreements with outsiders without the others' consent. It became a foundation of the Old Swiss Confederacy.
