Philippine Revolution
The Philippine Revolution was the armed struggle against Spanish rule launched by the Katipunan secret society in August 1896. After a truce in 1897 it revived in 1898 under Emilio Aguinaldo during the Spanish–American War, leading to the declaration of independence on 12 June 1898 and the First Philippine Republic. Spain then ceded the islands to the United States.
