Pactum Warmundi

1123 · 12th century

The Pactum Warmundi was a treaty of alliance concluded in 1123 between the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the Republic of Venice, named after Warmund, Patriarch of Jerusalem, who negotiated it while King Baldwin II was a captive. In return for naval help in the conquest of Tyre, Venice received a third of the city and quarters in other towns, with its own church, street, market and courts, and freedom from tolls.
