Palazzo Schifanoia

1385 · 14th century

The Palazzo Schifanoia is a palace in Ferrara built for the Este family from 1385 as a place of leisure. Its Hall of the Months, painted around 1470 for Duke Borso d'Este by Francesco del Cossa, Ercole de' Roberti and others, combines scenes of court life, astrological figures and classical gods. The frescoes are a major work of the Ferrarese school of painting.
