Palazzo Te

1524–1534 · 16th century

The Palazzo Te is a villa on the edge of Mantua, built between 1524 and 1534 for Federico II Gonzaga to designs by Giulio Romano. Conceived as a pleasure palace, it is a landmark of Mannerist architecture. Its frescoed rooms include the Room of the Giants, where the walls seem to collapse on the viewer.
