Patriotic Front (Zimbabwe)

1976–1980 · 20th century

The Patriotic Front was the alliance formed in 1976 by Robert Mugabe's ZANU and Joshua Nkomo's ZAPU, the two main nationalist movements fighting white minority rule in Rhodesia. It rejected the internal settlement and the state of Zimbabwe Rhodesia, took part in the Lancaster House conference of 1979 that ended the war, and broke up when the two parties fought the 1980 election separately.
