1816–1899 · 19th century · Also known as Baron Julius de Reuter, Paul Julius de Reuter

Paul Julius Reuter was a German-born British businessman who founded the Reuters news agency in London in 1851, using the telegraph to sell news to newspapers and financial houses. In 1872 he obtained from Naser al-Din Shah of Iran a sweeping concession for railways, mines and other enterprises, which was cancelled the next year after protests in Iran and objections from Russia.
