Pennal Letter

1406 · 15th century

The Pennal Letter was written by Owain Glyndŵr at Pennal on 31 March 1406 to Charles VI of France. In it Glyndŵr offered to transfer the allegiance of the Welsh Church from the pope in Rome to the pope in Avignon in return for French support, and set out plans for an independent Welsh Church and two universities. It survives in the French national archives.
