Prince of Wales

Prince of Wales was the title claimed by native Welsh rulers of Gwynedd as overlords of Wales. Llywelyn ap Gruffudd won English recognition of it in the Treaty of Montgomery in 1267, but was killed in 1282. Owain Glyndŵr revived the title in 1400. Since 1301 it has been given by the English and then British crown to the heir to the throne.
