Peter Kenilorea

1943–2016 · 20th century

Sir Peter Kenilorea was a Solomon Islands teacher and politician who became chief minister in 1976 and the first prime minister when the islands became independent from Britain on 7 July 1978. He served as prime minister again in the mid-1980s and later as speaker of the national parliament.
