c. 1610–1672 · 17th century

Peter Stuyvesant was a Dutch West India Company official who governed Curaçao from 1642 and New Netherland from 1647 to 1664. He conquered New Sweden in 1655 and built the wall that gave Wall Street its name, but his intolerance provoked protest. He surrendered New Amsterdam to the English in 1664.
