1570 · 16th century · Also known as Pfalzburg

Phalsbourg (German Pfalzburg) is a town in Lorraine, France, on the road across the northern Vosges. It was founded in 1570 by George John I, Count Palatine of Veldenz, and named after the Palatinate, but was sold to the Duke of Lorraine in 1583. Under French rule it was fortified by Vauban and became a garrison town.
