Marburg
Marburg is a university town on the Lahn river in Hesse, Germany. It grew around a castle of the landgraves of Thuringia and later of Hesse, and the Church of St Elizabeth, built over the tomb of Elizabeth of Hungary, made it a pilgrimage centre. Philip I of Hesse founded its university in 1527, and from 1567 to 1604 it was the seat of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Marburg.
