Maravarman Sundara Pandya I
Maravarman Sundara Pandya I was a king of the Later Pandya dynasty who began the revival of Pandya power in south India. Around 1219 he invaded the Chola kingdom, sacked Thanjavur and Uraiyur and forced the Chola king Kulottunga III to submit. Hoysala intervention restored the Cholas, but his campaigns opened the way for later Pandya supremacy in the Tamil country.
