Philip Louis II, Count of Hanau-Münzenberg
Philip Louis II (1576–1612) was Count of Hanau-Münzenberg from 1580. A Calvinist, in 1597 he invited Reformed refugees from the Netherlands and Wallonia to found the New Town of Hanau beside the old town, bringing gold-working, jewellery and textile trades that shaped the city's economy for centuries. He married Catharina Belgica of Nassau, a daughter of William the Silent.
