Philip the Handsome

1478–1506 · 15th century · Also known as Philip I of Castile

Philip the Handsome was the son of Emperor Maximilian I and Mary of Burgundy and inherited the Burgundian Netherlands as a child in 1482, with his father as regent. His marriage to Joanna of Castile made him king of Castile in 1506, but he died that year. His son Charles V united the Burgundian, Habsburg, Castilian and Aragonese inheritances.
