Philip V of Macedon

238–179 BCE · 3rd century BCE

Philip V of Macedon was Antigonid king of Macedonia from 221 to 179 BCE. He expanded Macedonian power in Greece, Crete and the Aegean, allied with Hannibal and took Bylazora in Paeonia. His siege of Abydos in 200 BCE helped bring Rome into the Second Macedonian War, and his defeat at Cynoscephalae in 197 BCE confined him to Macedonia.
