Second Macedonian War

200–197 BCE · 3rd century BCE

The Second Macedonian War was fought between Rome and Philip V of Macedon from 200 to 197 BCE. Rome, joined by Pergamon, Rhodes, the Aetolians and from 198 BCE the Achaean League, won it when Titus Quinctius Flamininus defeated Philip at Cynoscephalae in 197 BCE. Philip had to give up his Greek possessions, and Flamininus proclaimed the freedom of the Greeks at the Isthmian Games of 196 BCE.
