Piscataqua River
The Piscataqua River is a short tidal river forming part of the border between New Hampshire and Maine, flowing into the Atlantic at Portsmouth. English fishing settlements were founded along it from 1623, among the earliest in northern New England. Its deep harbour made Portsmouth and Kittery centres of trade, timber export and shipbuilding.
